The Biodiversity Policy Review is an independent, privately-commissioned piece of work. We have been prompted to act by a sense of alarm at the continuing rate of biodiversity loss and the hope that we can influence the future government policy in the lead-up to the UK general election.

It seeks:

  • to assess existing biodiversity policy in an objective manner;
  • to identify current areas of weakness;
  • and, most importantly, to put forward effective solutions to biodiversity decline, be they radical or traditional.

The variety and complex interplay of life on Earth is vital to us all, and our awareness of its importance is increasing all of the time. In this review, we will be examining biodiversity policy in the UK (both its land and territorial waters), but also in Europe, and the rest of the world.

Your views are very much welcome in this process whether you be an expert with ideas about fine-tuning existing legislation, or a member of the public with a particular rare bee in your bonnet.

We invite you to submit your views through this website in the form of direct emails, through participation in our online forum, or by answering the questionnaire.

The consultation process will be completed by the end of March, and the report will be available on this website by September 1, 2007.
